about

Me and my girlfriend, ilani, took a trip to AZ to visit my folks. On the way back to Los Angeles we decided to grab dinner in Palm Springs. She had never been there, and I wanted to take her to my favorite Mexican restaurant. After dinner we decided to walk around, so she could check out some of the stores. We both felt a certain energy from that place. Nothing demonic, but just unsettling. I knew some of the history about Palm Springs-from what my brother had told me. He mentioned that "old Hollywood actors", would chill out there. It was like their weekend getaway. He said that people like Dean Martin, and James Dean, used to relax out there. My curiosity spoke to me when I realized a lot of the street names-looked like Native American sounding words. On the drive back to LA I googled-The History Of Palm Springs. Backing up my intuition I learned that Palm Springs was where a certain Native tribe resided. The Cahuilla indians. It tripped me out-and I was inspired to write a song about them. I hope you enjoy!

lyrics

Coyote Of Cahuilla(lyrics)

The coyot sings with his fam the Cahuilla. In the canyon of the springs-saw things the overseer. The natives sought refuge in the clear blue night. Near Coachella-picking acorns made for life. Carving petroglyphs inside the rocks to lift. Ignorance is bliss-not fit to find a gift. Of an ancient myth of peoples trapping fish inside a net. The coyote brings the visions of a truth you might forget...

(chorus)
The coyot of Cahuilla
No snopes for the reader
1 quote for the rope a' dope
wrote for their leader.
Avoiding the sharp cactus thorns-born
with a spine. The coyote brings the courage
like the ones of the divine.(repeat)

An eagle dropped a blanket on the hard cold sand. Infested with the sickness from a torn old man. Coming from a painted ship-a trip to scan. Uncharted territory forcing hands to clamp. Down on a camp 1 by 1 to advance. The coyote sniffed them out to warn the people of the land. To stand firm as a tribe-a chance yearned to survive. Revive the the strength of Aztecs-and learn to be wise...

(chorus)
" "

Crusaders put a checkerboard grid for chess-on the desert sand disbanding native heads to jet. Religion came with sword to soar through with cross. They cannot afford to face the boss-faith was lost. When the stars came to alignment in the dark black watch. The coyote would alert the flock-just like cops. The tribal chief would talk to him-souls were swapped. Howling towards the north come forth-the war must stop. As the coyot hopped to eavesdrop the chop. Listening to orders on the eve of frost. He sacrificed himself for his inhabitants to cross. Following the stars like broken pieces of a chalk. The coyote passed away-turned to a guiding hawk of Cahuilla........
